How do you learn to ride a motorcycle and get a licence for one? Is there a permit for anyone under 18 and if so, isn’t it kinda pointless to have someone on your backside.
Im talking about the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R
I’m getting one after I Graduate high school but I dont know much about motorcycles.
The same way you learn to drive a car and get a license. You get the learners permit, practice until you are comfortable riding, and then test.
Usually “M” is an endorsement to your regular license, although some states allow a stand alone MC license.
Depends on your state. In MO you can get a permit after a writen test and ride alone. I would take a safety course, it could save your life: http://www.msf-usa.org/
After riding for about 5 years I took one of these courses and learned a few things that helped me….. go faster… wasnt supposed to say that but it is true…. it was well worth the money because tips I learned here actually saved my life more than once…
by the way… I learned how to ride from watching CHIPS, probably before your time…
Not one person here came out of the womb riding a motorcycle. we all had to learn at some point and time.
I personally had a bike license at 16 and was 18 before I ever had a car license. The proceedure is the same, you apply for the permit, you practice, you get comfortable on a bike and take a test. Now if you are smart, you will sign up for your states, MSF course at the same time you get your permit and they will teach you in the beginners course everything you need to know about motorcycle riding, from walking the bike around, to riding it, to doing a pretrip safety inspection, to teaching you some defensive driving technics that may just save your life at some point.
Motorcycles are not dangerous nor very fast. I personally walk by dozens a day that are just sitting on their kickstands not doing much of anything. It is the rider who in charge of making it go fast or slow, and it is the rider who has control (most of the time) as to the bike being dangerous or not. sure you can’t always account for what some other idiot is going to do out there on the road, but you will learn.
Ditto what P90XR said. There’s a couple ways to learn and a class will help take some of the pain out of trial and error. Trust me. Take MSF’s basic rider course and it’ll save your ass a couple times over. I took the class after I had already had my license for a while. The class made my rides a lot more enjoyable because a lot of questions I had about handling were solved with what I had learned. Knowledge improves confidence and skill.
